questions, and a multitude of standards are tested, versus

freshman and sophomore English teachers are using a new program to
focus on vocabulary development through a comprehensive knowledge of
Greek and Latin roots

Senior
English classes are elective and focused to provide higher interest
for continued learning—courses include AP, Advanced Composition
(CP), Expository Reading and Writing (CP), World Literature (CP),
British Literature (CP), Medical Literature (CP), Sports Literature
(General), and Popular Literature (General)

Stockdale
provides a CAHSEE senior English class for students who have not yet
passed the California High School Exit Exam

Publication
of Hoofprints, a student guide to writing research papers
(includes MLA style guide) which is given to each and every student
to keep

Implement the 12 Powerful Words by Larry L. Bell to help students understand common instruction words in testing situations

Encourage the use of Jerry Graff’s templates from the book, They Say I Say. Ideally, this would happen across the curriculum.

Purchase of Holt Literature and Language standards-based texts for juniors and possibly one elective senior section

Reassemble
RIAP and EAP people to re-energize the Stockdale Literacy Committee

the Student/Staff Book

of The Writing Round-Up—to be printed for all 2,600
students: a student guide for writing papers that will include
grammar rules and examples, district writing rubric, Cornell notes
guide, editing marks, commonly misspelled words, and a list of 100
of the greatest books
