Dr. Herman Discusses the Magnitude 7 Mendocino Earthquake
On December 5th, 2024, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck offshore of Cape Mendocino in northern California. To help understand the impact of the event, the processes that caused it, and seismic hazards throughout California (including here in Kern County), Dr. Herman provided his expertise to local news stations. You can see his conversation with KGET's Elaina Rusk in the clip below:
In addition, Dr. Herman collaborated with scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey National Earthquake Information Center to develop a Tectonic Summary of the event and the region where it occurred, which is among the most seismically active regions in California! You can find the Tectonic Summary at the bottom of the Event Page for the magnitude 7.0 earthquake.
