The mission of CSUB is to be student-centered in all that we do. We believe in empowering and supporting our students as they work to unlock their potential and flourish. To that end, CSUB offers programs, services and support to help with that journey. For our Latina/o/x students, an outstanding benefit continues to be CSUB’s federal designation as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).
In 1998, CSUB was designated a Hispanic-Serving Institution, as defined by the Higher Education Opportunity Act. HSI universities work to meet the unique needs of Latina/o/x students, many of whom are first-generation.
As of Fall 2019, CSUB reports 62.8 percent of undergraduates are of Hispanic heritage. The baseline for a university to be granted the HSI designation is 25 percent of full-time-equivalent undergraduates.
HACU
As a HSI, CSUB is a member of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities
(HACU). HACU represents more than 470 colleges and universities committed to Hispanic
higher education success in the U.S., Puerto Rico, Latin America, and Spain. CSUB
is an active member of HACU and sponsors a student delegation to the Annual Conference
to represent the University, where our students are able to connect with graduate
schools, employers, and other students from across the country. Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities Claudia Catota, J.D., M.A.For information:
