UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES AND PROGRAMS
The School of A&H has over 75 highly-qualified faculty members teaching in seven departments: Art and Art History, Communications, English, History, Modern Languages and Literatures, Music and Theatre, and Philosophy and Religious Studies. We also house the undergraduate Interdisciplinary Studies program. In addition to the majors and minors in all those areas, we also offer subject matter preparation for California Single Subject Teaching Credentials in Art, English, History, Music, and Spanish. Graduate programs are also available in English, History, and Spanish.
The School of Arts and Humanities plays a large role in supporting the university’s General Education program. In fact, many students discover their passion for the Arts and Humanities through General Education courses and develop a major or minor in one of our departments.
The Art, Music, and Theatre programs in A&H regularly offer concerts, exhibitions, and performances for the university and the community. We encourage students to be involved in these activities. The academic programs in A&H also offer an array of student organizations that provide possibilities for deeper involvement and leadership. These are excellent opportunities for students to build a set of skills and experiences that can help prepare students for their professional lives.
As an accredited professional school, we are dedicated to educating students to become more effective and efficient managers in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors that operate in our complex and dynamic environment. Although each program has unique learning goals and objectives, all the degree programs emphasize communication and quantitative skills, context and external environments, critical thinking and integrative problem solving, and a working knowledge of the pertinent academic disciplines.
The demanding programs in the School build upon the general education curriculum that prospective business and public administration students complete in the freshman and sophomore years. The knowledge and skills acquired in these broadly based programs are enhanced as the student enters the upper level professional programs within the School of Business and Public Administration.
The School recognizes that its student clientele requires a holistic understanding of business, economics, and public administration and must be able to easily relate one functional area to another. They must be able to draw upon skills learned in a variety of specialties for purposes of analysis and decision making.
Consequently, the undergraduate curricula is constructed on a strong core that places an emphasis on the development of analytical and management skills.
The School of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering isn't just a place for CSUB students to learn and grow. There are opportunities for community members of all ages to get involved too. The Fab Lab has regular open hours for anyone to come in and use its machines to make any kind of project. CSUB students and professors often host groups from local elementary, junior high, and high schools to show them everything the university has to offer. Other events held on campus are open to anyone in the community to check out.
The school of NSME is excited to offer two new degree programs starting in Fall 2021. We will be offering a Master of Science degree in Computer Science and a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health. The new public health degree is supported by a $3 million Title V grant from the Department of Education. The School of NSME is also busy with multiple laboratory remodel projects to support high impact learning opportunities for students, as well as scholarly research activities for faculty and students. Additional projects will come online this year including a student workspace where engineering students can be creative with large projects like our kinetic sculpture competition.
The school of NSME plays a vital role in our community and I am optimistic about our future. NSME will continue to grow and add new programs that will attract students and serve our region. The future of NSME indeed looks bright, and I am excited about the opportunity to continue serving as the Interim Dean of NSME during the 2021-2022 academic year.
