Phone: (661) 654-6214Email: mkabel@csub.eduOffice: EDUC 212More About Matthew KabelDr. Matthew Kabel is a Special Education Lecturer at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB), where he also serves as a University Advisor, Residency Coordinator, and Intern Supervisor. With over a decade of experience in K-12 education, Dr. Kabel's expertise spans roles as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, Special Day Class (SDC) teacher, and Resource Specialist Program (RSP) teacher, working across both elementary and secondary levels.
As a lecturer with CSUB, Dr. Kabel has taught many of the courses for students seeking Educational Specialist Credentials in Mild Moderate Support Needs (MMSN) and Extensive Support Needs (ESN). In addition, Dr. Kabel teaches graduate course for students seeking a Master of Arts in Education – Special Education.
Dr. Kabel is the Past-President of the California Association of Resource and Special Educators Plus (CARSplus), the largest association of special educators in California, dedicated to empowering educators to better serve students with special needs. His contributions to the field have been recognized with the prestigious titles of CSUB Outstanding Student in the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership and CSUB College of Social Science and Education (SSE) Outstanding Graduate.
Research
Dr. Kabel's research focuses on various areas of special education, including STEM, mathematics, social-emotional learning (SEL), support for students with learning disabilities, and job satisfaction among special education teachers. Dr. Kabel has presented at several conference and provided professional development to teachers in various school-districts.

His dissertation revolved around the use of brief experiential analysis to identify math interventions for struggling students in middle school.
Dr. Mouanoutoua is an experienced instructor who has taught many courses in a credential program. He currently teaches courses in the first phase of our Education Specialist Credential Program and spearheads the internship pathway, where he supports university supervisors and builds capacity with our intern teachers through professional development opportunities.
One of Dr. Mouanoutoua’s research interests consists of identifying math interventions for struggling students. He has conducted research using both single subject experimental design and group experimental analysis. He has attended and presented at many state, national, and international conferences. His other research interests involve the study of BIPOC special education candidates in California, where he hopes to learn more about the recruitment and retention rate of diverse special educators from the golden state.
