The Counseling Center provides psychological counseling and consultation services to students enrolled at CSUB and CSUB Antelope Valley campuses. The Center helps students with personal, academic, and career concerns, utilizing a short-term therapy model. The primary goal of counseling is to help students develop the personal awareness and skills necessary to overcome problems and to grow and develop in ways that will allow them to take advantage of the educational opportunities at the university. Students may utilize up to six individual sessions per semester or unlimited group therapy (when available). Counseling is provided at no extra cost to the student. Counseling is confidential.
Different Types of Services
During your first appointment, a counselor will meet with you to discuss your concerns. At the end of the session, the most beneficial options will be reviewed with you. These could include follow-up individual counseling appointments with the Counseling Center counselor, referral to one of the Counseling Center's therapy groups or workshops, and/or referrals to other resources on campus or in the community that can help you address your concerns.
After-Hours Crisis Service: When the Counseling Center is closed, students can access crisis counselors who can provide referrals and information about campus and community resources, as well as provide immediate help with urgent personal, emotional, or mental health concerns. If crisis counseling is needed after hours, call (661) 654-3366 and press 2 to be connected to Protocall, CSUB's After-Hours Counseling Service.
