Enterprise College
Enterprise College is a three-week summer course in economics. Students learn principles of economics with application to social issues. They also learn the essentials of leadership. The course meets the standards for both the senior-year high school course and an introductory college economics course. Enterprise College is offered through a CSUB-KHSD partnership. The Department of Economics, within CSUB's School of Business and Public Administration, coordinates and offers the program. KHSD announces the program, encourages students to apply, and provides contact information of eligible students.
Enterprise College meets 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday through Thursday (June 2 - June 19, 2024). Attendance in all class sessions is mandatory. Due to limited space, qualified students are admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Students missing more than one (1) class session will be dropped from the program. All class sessions will be held in-person.
Requirements for Enterprise College
The target audience is high school students entering their senior year. The eligibility for attending the program is a GPA of 3.0 of better and enrollment in at least one College Preparation or Honors course in their junior year. Also, must have passed Algebra II. Please DO NOT apply for admission if (1) your GPA is below a 3.0, (2) you plan to miss classes due to prior obligations, or (3) you are attending another CSUB program during the summer, as you will not get credit for two courses.
Taking a continuing education course in the summer will cost more than $1,000. Fortunately, we have been able to reduce the registration fee to only $175. Enrolling students through the Young Scholars Program has made this reduction possible. The registration fee is non-refundable. Upon written verification of student financial needs by a high school counselor, a limited number of assistance in the amount of $100 is available.
Students are enrolled under the Young Scholars Program. Those who successfully complete the course receive credit for The Economic Way of Thinking (ECON 1009, 3-semester units), which is transferable to accredited colleges and universities. ECON 1009 applies toward the lower-division general education requirement in social sciences at CSUB (Area D).
Students who successfully complete the course are credited for the senior-year economics course at the College Preparatory level. To receive credit at the Honors level, students must earn grades of B+ or better.
To save students money, we have adopted an excellent E-book in Principles of Economics. This book will be introduced to students on the first day of the class.
Dr. S. Aaron Hegde, Professor of Economics, and Director of the Environmental Resource Management Program, is the coordinator and main instructor of Enterprise College. He can be reached at shegde@csub.edu.
