Tailored Workshops
My favorite workshop was on imposter syndrome. The speaker went through different
points: "What is imposter syndrome?" What does it look like? Why is it problematic?
"And how to overcome it?" I learned that to overcome imposter syndrome, I had to first
acknowledge it and build the path for the next minority by breaking down the barriers.
Fatyma Cendejas, HACU's 36th Annual Conference DelegationSense of Community
Being able to experience the conference alongside fellow CSUB (California State University,
Bakersfield) students who may or may not have the same majors as you give the opportunity
to get to know them more and foster that sense of community that will undoubtedly
be brought back to campus after the conference.
Brianna Santaella, HACU's 36th Annual Conference DelegationLifetime Opportunity
Attending HACU's 32nd Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia with CSU Bakersfield was
a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. It was my first time going on a plane and
flying across the country. Being chosen to attend the conference alongside my fellow
Hispanic colleagues was truly a proud moment for me as a first-generation Latina student.
We heard from several inspirational key speakers and practiced critical job searching
skills at the conference. My favorite part of the trip was experiencing life in another
state, meeting students from different states and networking with businesses, corporations,
and schools from all over the country.
Amelia De La Rosa, HACU's 32nd Annual Conference DelegationNetworking that Opens Career Door's
I landed an internship with Amazon for Summer 2019 as an Operations Area Manager Intern
because I was able to connect with an Amazon recruiter at the exhibit. It led to Amazon
offering me a full-time position after graduation, while I decided to go another way,
it was amazing how far this conference got me. I am now a CSUB graduate and I still
look back and will be forever grateful for this opportunity. If you have the option
to apply, do it!
