Mariachi Girl
Anime Theatre Presents: Mariachi Girl @ CSUB
For the second-year consecutive year, CSUB partnered with Animo Theatre to bring programming to the campus. As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, Animo Theatre brought the “Mariachi Girl” musical to campus on September 13, 2019 in the Dore’ Theatre. The bilingual musical starred Estefani Lopez, who was contestant in both La Voz Kids & Tengo Talento.
Written by Roxanne Schroeder-Arce, Mariachi Girl is the third production for Animo Theatre. Directed by Miguel Orozco with musical direction by Juan Carlos Ozuna of Mariachi Águilas, the coming of age bilingual musical follows young Cita with the dream of following in her father’s footsteps, but runs counter to his traditional, cultural roots. Family dynamics and cultural stereotypes are explored in a musical that’s entertaining for the whole family.
There was two showtimes for the musical. The first show time was open for local middle school and high school students. The second show was open for the public to attend with purchased tickets.
