First-Time Freshman students have Housing Priority and those who live 60 miles or more from campus are required to live on. Students who are required to live on campus are not eligible to cancel their housing application, unless the have received an exemption to the policy by the Housing Committee.
Students who are not required to live on campus are eligible to request to cancel their housing application through their Housing Portal, if they have not already checked in.
The last day to cancel campus housing without financial penalty for the 2024-2025
application is July 15, 2024.
To cancel your housing, go to your CSUB Housing Portal, select the application you
wish to cancel, then follow the instructions for Housing Cancellation.
This option is only available prior to checking in. After check in, you must submit
a request to cancel. Keep in mind this is a request and it is subject to approval.
No, the First-Year Live-On requirement only applies to first-time freshman students.
If you are not a first-time freshman, you are not required to live on campus and you
do not have to apply for an exemption.
The Housing requirement is based on driving distance from CSUB campus to the student’s designated city or town as indicated on the address provided on the CSU Apply admissions application. This designation is based on the location of City Hall or the city center according to mapping analytics. Moving, or changing address, does not qualify as an exemption, per the policy.
If the city listed on your admissions application is not listed on the Exempted Cities/Towns list, you must submit an exemption appeal via your Housing Portal to be reviewed by the Housing Committee. Please note that a change of address does not qualify as an approved exemption.
Absolutely! We encourage you to apply as soon as possible if you are not a first-time
freshman, you are not guaranteed housing.
Any available spaces will be awarded based on the date that your application was submitted,
including your $50 application fee and $150 down payment.
First-Time Freshman students that are required to live on campus do not pay an application fee or down payment.
All other applicants pay a non-refundable $50 application fee and a $150 down payment (not to be confused with a security deposit) that goes toward the total cost of your fall housing fees. This down payment is refundable ONLY if you cancel on, or before, July 15, 2024 and that cancellation request is approved.
Triple rooms are our most spacious accommodation. Priority placement for these spaces go to First-Time Freshman students that are required to live on campus, and those students receiving financial aid.
You can *request* your roommate(s). Just like room preferences, roommate requests
are not guaranteed.
To request a roommate, go to the "Roommates & Groups" page on you current housing
application.
We do not permit students to check in early for the fall.
The only exceptions that would be considered are for students that have an academic or University commitment, such as orientation, that require them to be on campus prior to August 23rd (Check-In Day). On the rare occasion that a student is approved, an additional charge equal to the daily rate of their room, for each day that they are approved to check in early, will be added to their student account.
If you have an academic or University commitment, you can request to check in early here.
