Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at California State University, Bakersfield.
Mathematics and Statistics are fundamental to scientific and technological understanding.
Our vibrant and growing department offers an exciting and established program leading
to a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics degree.
Committed to the highest standards of teaching, the Department of Mathematics serves the University and the community by providing mathematics education to mathematics, science, engineering and liberal studies majors, as well as general education mathematics courses for all majors. In pursuit of its educational mission, the department offers a broad undergraduate degree in mathematics with four different concentrations: applied, statistics, teaching, and theoretical. We also offer minors in mathematics and statistics. Appropriate mathematical and statistical software and technology are integrated throughout our curriculum. Depending upon the particular concentration, students are prepared for a career in industry, government, or education.
The faculty includes specialists in applied mathematics, mathematics education, pure mathematics, and statistics. Their varied research offers students a chance to gain valuable insight into various branches of mathematics.
Classes for majors are moderate in size, taught by a diverse, student-centered faculty who are interested in the progress of their students. Employment opportunities in mathematics and statistics are excellent with demand for graduates in all of the mathematical sciences expected to remain high.
Whether you are a prospective student looking for a degree program or a prospective faculty member looking for a department that will support you I hope you will browse our web pages and find the information you are looking for. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
