Lee Webb Math Field Day -- Information for Volunteers
Volunteers will check in at the volunteer table in the Albertson Room - the room on the right side of the lobby of the Dore Theatre at 8:30. At check-in, you get a name tag and your assignments for the day. Note: even if you already have your assignment, it is important to check in so that we know you are present. After checking in, please enjoy the doughnuts and beverages but stay in the Albertson Room - you will meet with your event's coordinator who may have further instructions.
At 8:55 you may be asked to help herd people into the theatre for the opening speeches that begin at 9:00. You do not have to go in to listen to the speeches yourself. But around 9:15 everyone will come out and be in a rush to get to their events. Many of these people will be unfamiliar with the campus. They will be looking for people with name tags on - you - to help point them or lead them in the right direction. You should be able to do this as you make your way to your assignments.
Proctors: At your 8:45 meeting with your coordinator, you or your partner will be given a
morning proctor packet (depending on the size of the room and the number of volunteers
you may or may not have a partner). There will be one for each room. Inside, will
be the tests you will be administering. There will also be more detailed instructions
on what exactly you need to do.
Math Bowl: After the theatre clears out you will go up on stage set up for the junior varsity math bowl, which starts at 10:45. Please make yourselves available to help with the coordinator's directions.
A Lunch Buffet will be set up in Science 125 a little before noon. It is just for the volunteers - don't invite the high school students or teachers to join us. As much as I would like to be able to host them, we do not have the resources.
If you are an afternoon-only volunteer, you should find the volunteer check-in coordinator during in the lunch room between 12:00 and 12:30.
Proctors: As lunch winds down - around 12:45 the medleys coordinator will hand out the afternoon medleys packets. They will be similar, but not exactly the same as in the morning.
Math Bowl: After lunch, you should find out from the coordinator if anything else is required of you before the varsity math bowl begins. The coordinator will tell you when you need to be back at the Dore Theatre.
Around 3:45 the awards ceremony will begin at the Dore Theatre. You are welcome, but not required, to attend. At this point most of you are done for the day.
As you can tell, even though we want you to stay from 8:30 to 3:30, there is a quite a bit of "down" time. If you bring your textbooks to study, then there will be no reason to complain of boredom - but most people end up just enjoying the company of old or new friends.
