The Department of Nursing currently has four active programs: a Traditional (pre-licensure) BSN Program, an RN to BSN (post-licensure) Program, a DNP-FNP Program, and a MSN-DNP Program.

Traditional BSN Program
The BSN is a three-year BSN pre-licensure program. Prospective applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements and have not violated any eligibility department policies. Program applications are accepted once each year for fall entry. This program is impacted and does not maintain a waitlist.
RN to BSN Program
The RN to BSN Program at CSU Bakersfield is a post-licensure program designed for students interested in obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) after the completion of an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN). Those interested in applying to the RN to BSN program must hold an active California RN license, or be in the final semester of an ADN program, and must meet all other eligibility requirements. Program applications are accepted each year for fall entry. Students admitted to the fall RN-BSN Program may complete the program in fifteen months. This program is impacted and does not maintain a waitlist.
DNP-FNP Program
The DNP-FNP program is a three-year, eight-semester program designed for registered nurses (RNs) who have a Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in Nursing, and who are not Family Nurse Practitioners and aspire to become doctorally prepared nurse practitioners. Prospective applicants must hold an active California RN licence and a minimum of two years of full-time experience working as an RN. Students are admitted for fall entry only.
MSN-DNP Program
The MSN-DNP program is a 15-month, four-semester program designed for master’s prepared Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), including Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), Nurse Anesthetists and Nurse Midwives, who are seeking the terminal degree in nursing discipline and to be prepared for autonomous clinical practice and interprofessional leadership at the highest level. Prospective applicants must hold an active California RN license, an advance practice registered nurse (APRN) national certification, and have one year full-time experience in an advanced practice role. Students are admitted for fall entry only.
