The Black Student Success Advisory Council serves as a strategic body that provides guidance, advocacy, and recommendations to improve the Black student experience on campus. It works collaboratively with university leadership, faculty, staff, and students to develop policies, programs, and initiatives that foster academic achievement, cultural affirmation, and a sense of belonging.
Goals:
- Enhance Black Student Success & Retention – Develop and support programs that improve the retention, persistence, and graduation rates of Black students.
- Increase Campus Belonging & Support – Foster a welcoming and inclusive campus environment where Black students feel valued and supported.
- Advocate for Institutional Change – Recommend policies and institutional practices that address barriers to Black student success.
- Strengthen Mentorship & Leadership Development – Establish mentorship opportunities that connect students with faculty, staff, alumni, and professionals.
- Expand Academic & Career Resources – Provide academic support, career readiness programs, and professional networking opportunities.
- Promote Cultural Awareness & Engagement – Support initiatives that celebrate Black identity, history, and contributions.
- Monitor & Assess Institutional Progress – Use data and student feedback to assess university progress in supporting Black student success and make informed recommendations.
