Elementary Education: Multiple Subject Credential Program
The Multiple Subject Credential prepars candidates to teach in a self-contained classroom as generally found at elementary schools, such as seen in grades K-6.
About the Program
The program is 50-52 semester units depending on the chosen pathway. The recommended pathway is full-time for three semesters. This program is offered at our Bakersfield and Antelope Valley Campuses. Courses are generally offered in the late afternoon and early evening.
Applicants to the program must be post-baccalaureate (holding a bachelor’s degree or higher).
All applicants are required to attend an information session and to submit a complete program application for admission consideration.

Admission Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for program admission the following requirements must be met, meeting the requirements does not guarantee program admission:
- Admitted to CSUB as a post-baccalaureate student
- Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
- Completed foundation courses: EDTE 3000, EDTE 3308, EDTE 4100, and EDTE 4200 with at least a grade of "C" or better or "Credit".
- Have a GPA of at least 2.75 in your last 60 semester or 90 quarter units
- Met Subject Matter Competency Requirement
- Fingerprint/Background Clearance
- Tuberculosis clearance
- Mandated Reporter Training Certificate
- Submitted a complete program application by the deadline
- Successful program interview
Exceptional Admission
Applicants who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement may submit an Exceptional Admission Application as long as their current GPA meets the minimum GPA requirement for CSUB Graduate Students of 2.5. Exceptional Admission Applications are considered on a program availability basis only.

Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) (post program admission) | The RICA is required to be eliglbe to apply for your preliminary credential until June 30, 2025 when it will be retired. *If a student enrolls in EDTE 3000 pre-program admission, fingerprint clearance must be met and professional liability insurance must be purchased for this course.
If an applicant receives credential program admission they may be required to fingerprint with a different district than they completed their early field experience (EDTE 3000) with depending on their placement. They may also need to purchase professional liability insurance again to meet clinical practice clearance requirements.
