Wrestler Bill Van Worth earns CSUB's first qualification to the National Championship meet. At least one Roadrunner grappler has qualified for the NCAA meet in each of the subsequent 47 seasons, with six wrestlers making the tournament in all four of their years on campus.

1975-2006
CSUB men's track and field had many great athletes compete during its NCAA Division II era. Bakersfield boasted one or more distinguished All-Americans from 1975-2006.

1976
CSUB wrestling team wins the first of eight DII National Championships. The program would go on to capture National Titles in 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1987.

Roadrunner wrestler Joe Gonzales wins a program-best 55 bouts, finishing with a perfect 55-0 record. Teammate John Acevedo completes the year with a mark of 53-0. Both Gonzales and Acevedo win individual National Championships that season, the first of nine individual National Titles in program history.

Phyllis Blunston wins first CSUB women's track and field DII individual NCAA national championship in the High Jump event with a leap of six feet even. Bakersfield's women's track and field program totaled 21 DII individual NCAA national champions.

Men's swimming and diving team captures the NCAA Division II National Championship. The `Runners would go on to win 13 National Titles while competing at the Division II level.

CSUB Softball wins a program-high 54 games and goes on to win the first of three-straight NCAA Division II National Championships.

Men's basketball plays the first-ever game in the newly-completed Icardo Center. Icardo Center was primarily funded by the generous gift of the Icardo family. CSUB defeats Cal Poly Pomona, 99-86, in the inaugural contest.

CSUB Volleyball wins the NCAA Division II National Championship under Head Coach David Rubio. CSUB volleyball tallies 3-0 sweeps in all four postseason matches on the way to winning the 1989 NCAA Division II National Championship.

Men's basketball team, led by Head Coach Pat Douglas, posts an unblemished 33-0 record on the way to its national title. The team wins three titles in the 1990s (1993, 1994, 1997).

Men's basketball guard, Kenny Warren, scores a CSUB all-time record 40 points in a game against Grand Canyon University.

CSUB Volleyball's Christy Wieneke is named the NCAA Division II Player of the Year.

Four Roadrunners win individual conference championships to lead the CSUB wrestling team to a 1996 Pac-12 Conference Championship and a third-place finish at the National Championship meet.

Men's soccer team wins a school record 20 games, en route to capturing CCAA Regular Season and Tournament titles and an NCAA Division II National Championship.

Kebu Stewart is named the NCAA Division II Player of the Year while leading the CSUB men's basketball team to a National title. For his efforts, Stewart becomes the first `Runner selected in the NBA draft (35th overall, second round, Philadelphia 76ers).

Brooke Radman becomes the first All-American honoree when she tabs an honorable mention nod from the NSCAA. This was the women's soccer program's second season of existence (1997).

Felena Puentes pitches the only perfect game in CSUB softball history (against Cal State Stanislaus).

CSUB Athletics earns the NCAA Division II Directors' Cup, awarded annually to the university that collects the most points for success at National Championships.

Senior Stephen Neal finishes the wrestling season 44-0 and captures his second straight National Championship. Neal sets a school record with 31 pins, a single-season school record, and leads the Roadrunner team to its second Pac-12 Championship in four seasons.

Women's soccer records thirteen wins and twelve shutouts during the 1999 season, both of which still hold as the most all-time in program history.

Mike Plate (men's golf) wins the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament.

CSUB Women's Basketball wins the NCAA Division II West Region Championship and goes on to compete in the Elite 8 at the National Tournament.

The women's swimming and diving team captures three consecutive NCAA Division II Championships from 2003-05, led by three-time NCAA DII Swimmer of the Year Loni Burton. Burton won 13 individual National Championships during her time at CSUB.

CSUB Wrestling standout Stephen Neal wins 156-10, including a pair of National Championships and 71 pins, during his Roadrunner career. After graduation, Neal goes on to capture a World Freestyle Championship before switching sports and winning three Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots, the last coming in 2005.

After years of dominating the NCAA Division II ranks, CSUB Athletics announces the initiation of the process to move up to Division I.

Men's track and field has wins a total of 19 individual conference titles since transitioning to DI in 2007.

Baseball's Zach Arneson becomes the first Major League Draft Pick in school history when San Francisco makes him the 648th selection of the 2010 draft. Two more `Runners, Jason Kudlock (Rangers) and Mickey Jannis (Orioles), are also selected that season.

Jake Priest wins MPSF titles in the 200 Fly, the 200 IM and the 400 IM, earning Swimmer of the Year honors and leading the men's swimming and diving team to the 2011 Conference Championship.

Led by Head Coach Simon Tobin and forward Gyasi Zardes, who scored a CSUB DI record 18 goals, the 2011 men's soccer squad earns an at-large bid to NCAA Tournament.

Legendary coach Kathy Welter finishes her 26-year stint at the helm of CSUB with 1,143 career victories, which still ranks 22nd all-time among NCAA softball coaches.

Led by WAC Player of the Year, Tyler Shryock, the CSUB Baseball team wins 37 games and captures the 2013 WAC Regular Season Championship.

Men's swimmer, Mitchell Huxhold, wins Western Athletic Conference Championships in the 500 and 1650 Freestyle races and qualifies for the NCAA Championship meet in 2014. Huxhold is named the conference's Male Athlete of the Year and earns All-American honors.

Led by Head Coach Giovana Melo, CSUB volleyball wins the 2014 and 2017 WAC Tournaments, becoming the first CSUB Athletics program to make two NCAA Tournament appearances at the Division I level.

Gyasi Zardes, former CSUB men's soccer All-American, makes the first of his 56 appearances with the US Men's National Team against Chile. Zardes has 12 international goals in his USMNT career.

CSUB Baseball posts 37 wins, including a pair of do or die victories over Seattle U, to earn the 2015 WAC Tournament Championship and advance to the NCAA Tournament. The `Runners knock off Ole Miss, 2-1, for the school's first Division I postseason victory.

In her senior season, women's basketball All-American Tyonna Outland becomes the program's all-time leading scorer with 2,078 career points. Outland goes on to play professionally before returning to CSUB as assistant coach.

CSUB Softball wins the WAC Tournament, earning the program its first NCAA Tournament appearance at the Division I level.

Dedrick Basile sinks a game-winning shot over the outstretched arm of future NBA star Pascal Siakam to win the WAC Tournament and send Head Coach Rod Barnes' men's basketball team to its first March Madness at the Division I level.

Women's cross country runner Angel Valdez represents Bakersfield twice at NCAA West Regionals with back-to-back appearances in 2016 and 2017. She caps her career with the program's highest finish at WAC Cross Country Championships and NCAA West Regionals.

Ariel Lee and Tori Peers become the first pair of `Runners to both place in the Top 10 at the WAC Women's Golf Championship.

Freshman Julianne Finch wins the women's track and field team's first Western Athletic Conference individual title in the pole vault.

CSUB men's basketball makes a historic run through the 2017 National Invitational Tournament. The `Runners win three-straight road games and become the first eight-seed in NIT history to reach the semifinals, which was held in Madison Square Garden (March 2017).

Sydney Haynes (2014-18) finishes her `Runner beach volleyball career with a program-high 43 victories.

Left-handed pitcher Austin Davis makes his major league debut with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2018. In doing so, Davis becomes the first CSUB Baseball student-athlete to accomplish the feat.

Alan Collatz becomes the first student-athlete alumnus inducted into the CSUB Hall of Fame for his historic efforts as a former All-American and then the Head Coach of the CSUB track and field program.

Swimmers Autumn D'Arcy and Mikayla Popham combine to win five individual titles and a relay championship at the 2020 Western Athletic Conference meet. D'Arcy would be named the league's Swimmer of the Year, while Popham would land WAC Freshman of the Year honors.
