Aim High: The motto of Phi Sigma Sigma, translated from the Greek "Diokete Hupsala"
Alumna (Plural= Alumnae, pronounced alum-nee): An initiated member of Phi Sig who has completed college.
Archon: Archon is the Greek word for President or leader.
Bid: An invitation for membership into Phi Sigma Sigma.
Bursar: Bursar is the chapter Treasurer
Collegiate Chapter: An official unit of the fraternity, bound by its charter to uphold and act in accordance with the Fraternity standards. Each chapter is given unique Greek letters to recognize itself.
Colony: A group of recruited women that is not yet an official Phi Sig chapter.
Founders Day: A day of reunion with sisters which is a time for renewal of friendships and rededication to the Fraternity and its ideals.

Initiated Member: A woman who has completed all of the requirements for Initiation and has been granted full privileges of membership following the Initiation Ceremony.
Initiation: The ceremony which initiates new members into the full privileges of membership.
New Member: A woman who has recently become a new member of Phi Sig, but is not yet an initiated member.
Potential New Member: A woman who is interested in joining a sorority and going through the Recruitment process.
Recruitment: The process by which interested women find out more about sorority life.
Sapphire Sister: An initiated member of Phi Sig assigned to help mentor a new member as she enters the organization.
The Sphinx: The official magazine publication of Phi Sigma Sigma that is sent to every initiated member for her lifetime. |
