Nonresident Tuition Exemption
CSU Nonresident Tuition Exemption (AB540) Eligible Students
Nonresident students (including U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and undocumented individuals, including students with a T visa U visa, DACA, or TPS) may be exempted from paying nonresident tuition. Students seeking the AB 540 Exemption must satisfy attendance and graduation/transfer requirements from a California school (e.g., K-12, adult school, and community college).
Steps for Submitting for AB540
For new and continuing students requesting consideration for the nonresident tuition exemption as provided by Education Code 68130.5, as amended, commonly known as AB 540 must submit the following items:
Step 1: Complete a California Nonresident Tuition Exemption Request
Step 2: Submit transcripts
- Final, official California high school transcript showing diploma as awarded, if you have not done so already
- Final, official California community college transcripts, if you have not done so already
