Veteran/Active Duty Students: How to get started
Step 1: Apply to CSUB
CSUB will accept admissions application from military service member via the CalState Apply Application during the filing period listed below. Be sure to indicate your veteran status in the profile section of your application.
The following is the admissions application dates for military service members and veterans ONLY:
- Fall Semester: October 1st - June 2nd
- Spring Semester: August 1st - September 30th

STEP 2: Apply for VA Benefits
If you expect to enroll under educational benefits administered by the Veterans Affairs you may apply on-line using the eBenefits website. After completing the application, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE), or award letter, in the mail from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Please submit this letter to CSUB's Veteran Success Center located in building 10 on the campus map.
Transfer students should file the a Request for Change of Program or Place of Training (VA form 22-1995).
STEP 3: Apply for Financial Aid
We encourage all of our military service members to apply for financial aid, via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), electronically each year. The priority FAFSA filing period is October 1 - March 2, and by applying by this deadline you will receive priority consideration for funds with limited allocations.
You may also apply for scholarships for CSUB-only students at Roadrunner Scholarship Universe.
Please note that CSUB's Federal School Code is 007993.
STEP 4: Complete CSUB Admissions Process
You will receive an email from CSUB Office of Undergraduate Admissions acknowledging receipt of your application, along with your specific CSUB ID number and login instructions to your myCSUB account. Pay particular attention to any outstanding "To-Do" list items that you need to complete and/or submit. Be sure to submit your DD-214 and military transcripts, such as AARTS, SMART, or CCAF. Admission to the University will be contingent upon meeting all eligibility requirements, as well as meeting all deadlines and documents to be submitted.
Transcripts may be:
- Submitted electronically from the sending institution to the email incomingtranscripts@csub.edu
- Ordered through a transcript sending service by your institution
- Mailed to:

Please note: Transcripts submitted by the applicant are considered unofficial. Screenshots, photos, images taken from a camera phone, etc. of transcripts are not acceptable as an official transcript.
Check your admissions status online at myCSUB regularly for any updates. Once a decision is made, it will be reflected on your account.
STEP 5: Complete Your Veterans Certification Request
Email Katie Schneider the school certifying official your certification request please include your name, student ID number, GI Bill chapter number, and specific semester . It is your responsibility to email Kaite Schneider at kschneider@csub.edu every semester to request VA educational benefits. Certification beyond this semester is not automatic. If you are eligible for educational benefits, your certification will be sent to the VA Muskogee Regional Office. It is mandatory to inform CSUB's Certifying Official, within three (3) days, of any and all changes made to your course schedule.
STEP 6: Admissions Next Steps
Once you have been provisionally admitted to the university, please follow these next steps to confirm your admissions and transition to the university.
