CHRS
The Common Human Resources System (CHRS) project is a California State University project with the goal of transforming the Human Resources business processes and practices and consolidating individual campus database instances into a single, centrally managed system.
Over the last several years campus has been working on preparing for CHRS through meetings with project experts who are guiding campuses on upcoming system changes and data clean up through Position Papers. Module documentation that is guiding the design also provides information to understand what will be different in CHRS compared to our current PeopleSoft system.
Why Is the CSU Implementing CHRS?
CHRS is a streamlined, sustainable, and cost-effective HR system that offers opportunities for collaboration and enhancement across the entire CSU system. CHRS is based on PeopleSoft 9.2 with modifications to make it work for the CSUs business needs. These modifications have been designed by experts from all the CSUs, and are being built by the Chancellor’s Office.
To learn more about why CHRS is being rolled out, watch this short video:
Video Transcript: So why are we implementing CHRS? The CSU has 23 unique campuses (plus the CO), and we all use different HR processes and systems. That’s not the most effective use of our resources. With 23 different HR Systems: it’s difficult – and costly – to maintain all that software, no consistent way of doing business, PeopleSoft 9.0 isn’t even supported anymore! Yikes! It would be smart if we all used ONE HR System and performed HR processes in a common way so campuses could share resources if someone is out! It may be painful as people adjust to a new HR system and new processes. At first, some campuses may lose some functionality while other campuses may gain functionality. CHRS will improve over time with new releases and upgrades will give people new features more quickly. CHRS also prepares us to move to new technologies in the future like the Cloud. Reports will be more accurate, based on standardized data. And those auditors and regulatory agencies? CHRS will help keep us on their good sides. CHRS will help us to save resources that we can use for student success, so the CSU system can retain our proud place as a leader in California’s economic engine. How can you support CHRS?
Throughout the CHRS project’s implementation, updates will be sent to keep campus informed of the progress. For more information on the CHRS Program, please contact us at chrs@csub.edu.
