Question Persuade Refer (QPR)
Welcome to QPR at CSUB!
The purpose of QPR is to bring awareness and training about suicide prevention to
students, staff and faculty.
The QPR Institute’s mission is to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help.
A QPR gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide.
The CSUB Counseling Center offers a 90-minute QPR gatekeeper training to students, staff, and faculty. Trainings are offered in-person or via Zoom. If you would like further infomation about the QPR training or to schedule a training for your group or class, please contact the CSUB Counseling Center Director:
