English Club
Have you ever wanted to play a game of Dungeons & Dragons? What about meeting with your peers and professors outside of class to discuss your current read? Please consider joining the English Club! English club is open to all CSUB students, including undergraduate and graduate students, so this could be the perfect opportunity to make more friends here at CSUB! English Club does not have any membership requirements because it is an open club, so every student is welcome to attend any of our upcoming meetings and social events. We hope to see you soon!”

Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta is the International English Honor Society. Its central purpose is to confer distinction upon outstanding students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies. Sigma Tau Delta sponsors the California Writers Series, which aims to bring California writers to campus on a regular basis, and the Lectures in Language and Linguistics, which aims to bring a California-based linguist and/or language expert to CSUB’s campus every quarter to speak on a given topic and to meet with students and faculty. The society also holds its Annual Induction and Awards Ceremony, where we present the Betty Creative Writing Awards, created to honor the creative work of students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and the Li’i Pearl Excellence in English Award, which recognizes outstanding graduates of the Department of English.
To become a member of Sigma Tau Delta, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a current undergraduate or graduate student, majoring or minoring in English
- Have a B average overall (3.0 GPA), as well as a B average in English
- Have taken a minimum of 2 college courses in English language and literature
- Have completed 3 semesters (5 quarters) of undergraduate work
Lifetime membership includes:
- Scholarship, internship, assistantship, grant, and writing award opportunities
- Gaining the privilege to wear honor cords and medals at graduation
- Opportunities to be published in The Rectangle literary journal
- Opportunities to enhance your résumé
Each new member pays a one-time international induction fee of $60 for a lifetime membership. This induction fee is directly payable to Sigma Tau Delta.

The deadline for applying to Sigma Tau Delta is January 30, 2026.
Please note: There is an initiation fee of $60 to join Sigma Tau Delta (payable directly to STD).
This fee covers lifetime membership in the international organization, membership certificate, and initiation pin. It
also makes you eligible to purchase additional STD merchandise, such as an honor stole
to wear at graduation, directly from the organization (https://english.org/).
The process:
- Once we receive your application, we will verify that you have met the requirements.
- If you meet the qualifications, your information will be sent to the Sigma Tau Delta international headquarters at Northern Illinois University after the January 30, 2026 deadline has passed.
- You will then receive an email from the main office which will ask you to accept the invitation for membership and to create your personal profile.
- Once you have completed your personal profile, you will then receive a second email with instructions on how to make the induction fee payment.
- Once payment is made, you will receive a notification that your membership has been activated.
- Your membership certificate and pin will then be mailed to the Chapter Advisors, and you will have the opportunity to receive them at the Annual Induction and Awards Ceremony, which will be held in on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
