Jim Scully

Jim Scully
Jim Scully

Jim Scully is a composer, performer and educator in the fields of contemporary classical music and jazz studies. Scully holds degrees in music from CSU Bakersfield and UC Irvine and has previously taught at Bakersfield College and UC Irvine. His teaching responsibilities at CSUB include courses in Music Theory, Jazz Studies, Composition and Music Technology. In addition, he is busy as Director of the CSUB Jazz Collective and the Bakersfield Jazz Festival.

As a composer, Scully is an ASCAPlus Award winner, and has received grants from American Composers Forum, University Research Council and the Teacher Learning Center at CSU Bakersfield. He has had works commissioned and performed by Trio Céleste, Keith Calmes, and others. Select compositions are available on the Navona, Beauport Classical, CSUB Jazz, and Keith Calmes Music labels.

In addition to his teaching and writing, Mr. Scully is a member of College Music Society, Society of Composers, Kern County Music Educators Association and American Composers Forum. He resides in Bakersfield, CA with his wife and three sons - Aidan, Maxwell and Dylan.
