Emergency Preparedness - Fire
Upon discovering a fire, close the door to the room where the fire is located and immediately sound the building fire alarm.
THE NEAREST FIRE ALARM IS LOCATED _______________________
Call University Police at Ext. 2111; give your name, department, and location of fire.
When a fire alarm sounds, DO NOT USE AN ELEVATOR. WALK DON'T RUN TO THE NEAREST STAIRWAY EXIT. Give assistance to all disabled persons in the building or in a stairway.
If the fire is small you may wish to use a fire extinguisher. ONLY USE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IF YOU HAVE RECEIVED FIRE EXTINGUISHER TRAINING AT CSUB. BE SURE YOU ARE USING THE PROPER EXTINGUISHER FOR THE TYPE OF FIRE YOU ARE FIGHTING. If you are not sure, read the instructions on the extinguisher.

If the fire is large, very smoky, or rapidly spreading, evacuate the building immediately. Inform others in the building who may not have responded to the evacuation alarm. If the alarm stops, continue the evacuation and warn others not to re-enter the building.
If the fire occurs during business hours, the injured will be treated at the Student Health Center or transported to local hospitals.
Evacuate to the designated evacuation area for the building you are in. Don't return to the building until instructed to do so by University Police.
Notify University Police or firefighters on scene if you suspect someone may be trapped inside the building.
