Applied Experience
General Information
The Applied Experience courses allows psychology students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various aspects of the conceptual and theoretical knowledge they have acquired throughout their studies.
This course is a requirement for the Psychology major.
Psychology majors currently have four choices for completing the applied experience ("Applications of Psychology") requirement for their degree in psychology:
(1) PSYC 4810 Directed Research in Psychology
You must ask a faculty member who conducts research whether you can work in their personal lab. This is different form the lab classes that students enroll in as part of their major requirements. The person listed as âinstructorâ for the course on MyCSUB is not in charge of placing students in classes and cannot place you in someone's personal lab â you must speak to the faculty member with whom you are interested in working about joining their lab.

(2) PSYC 4860 Internship in Applied Psychology
Students will have supervised field experience in a community agency concerned with the promotion of human well-being through the application of psychological knowledge. Students are expected to complete a total of 45 internship hours during the semester.

(3) PSYC 4870 Cooperative Education (Employment)
If you are employed in a position that you believe is directly related to the field of psychology, and you would like to apply some of the hours spent at your job toward applied experience credit for your psychology major, then this may be the course for you.
For more information please email : kstark-garrett@csub.edu
(4)PSYC4880 Directed Research Study in Instruction of Psychology
Get hands-on experience with teaching by working with a psychology faculty member as a teaching assistant. To be a TA, you need to first find a professor who is teaching a psychology course you have already taken (and passed) who would be willing to have you as their teaching assistant.
