First-time Freshman: A-G Course Requirements
CSUB requires first time freshman to complete the 15-unit comprehensive course pattern with a letter grade of C- or better. Each unit is equal to a year of study in a subject area.

Acceptable courses include algebra I, algebra II, geometry, and other advanced courses that require algebra and geometry as prerequisites. Computer programming courses do not fulfill the math subject requirement. |

Must include one year of biological science and one year of physical science. Both must have a laboratory component. |
E | Foreign Language | 2 years required | 2 years of the same language other than English is required; American Sign Language is approved |
F | Visual and Performing Arts | 1 year required | Must be a year-long visual and performing arts course selected from visual art, dance, drama/theatre, or music. |
G | Electives | 1 year required | College preparatory courses selected from the areas listed above or other approved college preparatory AâG courses. |
If you are unable or choose not to make up your subject deficiency, you may earn at least 60 units, including 30 semester units of general education from a California Community College or other college and transfer as an upper-division transfer student, where only your college performance is considered for admission.
Grades in A-G Courses and Test Scores
- California residents and graduates of California high schools will be eligible for admission at CSU Bakersfield by earning a 2.50 GPA or higher in college preparatory subjects.
- Non-California residents may be eligible for admission to the CSU Bakersfield by earning a 3.00 GPA or higher in college preparatory subjects.
- The CSU Bakersfield has suspended the use of ACT/SAT examinations in determining admission eligibility. If admitted to a CSUB, ACT or SAT test scores can be used as one of the measures to place students in the proper mathematics and written communication courses.
