Greener is Fire Chief of the Bakersfield Fire Department (BFD), where he has received
a nationally recognized upgrade to an Insurances Services Office (ISO) rated Class
2 Fire Department, placing the BFD within the top 1.5% of Fire Departments nationwide.
Greener has also been instrumental in securing the capital improvement and rehabilitation
of aging and antiquated Fire Department facilities. Recently, he helped successfully
bring one of the largest pieces of the World Trade Center on the West Coast to serve
as the centerpiece of the BFD 9/11 World Trade Center Memorial in Bakersfield, a project
which he chaired where he oversaw funding and construction. Greener has also been
involved with CSUB as a member of the Board of Directors of the CSUB Alumni Association,
where he was once served as president.
Michael A. Neal, Class of 1973, 1982
Neal was part of the second graduating class at CSUB, which was then known as California
State College Bakersfield. As part of such a young higher education institution, Neal
had the opportunity to take part in the creation of the accounting club on campus,
and served one of the first presidents of the CSUB Alumni Association as well as the
Roadrunner Club. Neal was not only a student of CSUB, but also had a long standing
career with the University where he served as Vice President for Business & Administrative
Services and was a member of the President’s Cabinet until his retirement in 2014.
Neal’s community involvement includes serving as a board member of the California
Almond Board and the Kern County Farm Bureau, in addition to volunteering with the
American Cancer Society and several church organizations. Neal was also a member of
the Board of Directors for the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce, Kern Agricultural
Board, Berrenda Mesa Water District, and Bakersfield West Rotary Club.
David Reese, Class of 1984, 2012
Reese is currently the principal of Bakersfield High School (BHS) and has served in
the Kern County Education system for 32 years. He has fully implemented “The Driller
Way,” a schoolwide initiative which encourages students to embrace the virtues and
character traits that lead to a successful life. A pioneer in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics education, Reese was instrumental in ensuring that BHS
was the first school to introduce Project Lead the Way. He also championed and Co-Created
the archiving program at BHS as a way of preserving much of what is valuable to the
Bakersfield community. Reese has been recognized as Principal of the Year, Administrator
of the Year and Teacher of the Year, along with various other awards in Bakersfield,
including Coach of the Year, Outstanding Volunteer Award and the Bethany Service Award.
Tara-Nicholle Nelson, Class of 1996, 1998
Nelson served as the first and only Vice President of Marketing for MyFitnessPal,
an online application used by more than 120 million people worldwide that gives users
access to information about healthy food recipes and fitness activities, and allows
them to track and share this information with other users. Nelson is the founder and
CEO of Transformational Consumer Insights, Inc.(TCI), a strategy and customer research
firm. She has authored two critically acclaimed books on real estate, published over
3,000 articles and syndicated columns on real estate and behavioral finance, and has
served as the print, web and broadcast expert spokesperson for cable television network
HGTV and real estate portal Trulia.com. Nelson has also been recognized as one of
the Top 100 Influential Women in Real Estate, 2008-2009 in the Swanepoel Trends Report,
as well as one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in Real Estate, 2008-2009 in
the Inman News, and the Revvie Award for the Top Marketing Executive of 2015. She
is the President of the Board of Directors for City Slicker Farms.
