Study life.
The CSU Bakersfield Biology curriculum emphasizes hands-on inquiry based learning. Courses offered cover a broad spectrum of biological diversity, including animal, plant, and microbiology.
Undergraduate Biology majors choose the courses that interest them most and may select an area of emphasis in either botany, zoology, cellular and molecular biology, environmental, or pre-professional biology. The field of Biology is interdisciplinary and our curriculum reflects that by integrating studies in chemistry, mathematics, computer science, and other related subjects.
In the graduate program, CSUB offers a diverse curriculum that spans the fields of conservation biology, physiology, plant ecophysiology, plant anatomy, microbiology, molecular biology, evolution, ecology, systematics, and behavior.
The diverse interests of our faculty provide students with a wide range of research and educational opportunities, so they can explore many different career paths. Current and perspective students are encouraged to explore the research that our faculty do by navigating to their individual websites under the Directory link. To learn more about getting involved in research see the Student Resources link.
"...what makes CSUB Biology special is the high level of interaction between students and faculty. This is a rare find in Academia and I believe it was crucial for my development as a student." - Aaron Ramirez, Professor of Biology at Reed College and CSUB Alum
