Body Composition

Body composition testing estimates the total amount of body fat a person has. It can be performed using several techniques, at CSUB we can estimate body composition utilizing: (1) air displacement plethysmography (Bod Pod), (2) skinfold measurement, and (3) bioelectric analysis (BIA).

Air displacement plethysmography (Bod Pod)

Bod Pod is an accurate and estimates percent body fat by measuring the amount of air a person displaces (~± 3% error).

Skinfold Measurement

The skinfold technique assesses the thickness of skinfolds taken at various parts of the body. This method is quicker, with a slightly higher margin of error (±3.5% error).

Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA)

Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA) assesses the amount of water in the body. The method is very quick, with a higher margin of error (+ 5.0 error).
