Financial Aid Information

Upper Separator Bar

The CSUB Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships administers a number of financial aid programs to enable those students without adequate financial resources to attend classes. Funding for eligible applicants may include moneys from grants, loans, and scholarships.

Please make an effort to visit the CSUB Financial Aid & Scholarships home page at

Here's some other important information:

  • You may apply for aid prior to your actual enrollment in Regional Programs classes, but in order to be eligible for the funds, you must not only apply but also be admitted prior to the disbursement of any funds.
  • Priority date for filing for financial aid is March 2 (which is actually six months before the academic year begins) with a folder completion date of April 15 of the same year. Forms are typically available January 2.
  • The form to get: Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Late applications are accepted after the priority date, but awards to late applicants are dependent upon the availability of remaining funds. And now it's available on-line for easy access...not to mention that submitting the form electronically is 7-14 days faster than using the snail-mail application.
  • The Signature Page is a very important aspect of the FAFSA. Once you have inputted all the required data, you should then print the Signature Page.
  • Be sure to provide all required signatures and mail the page to the federal processor as instructed.
  • You will automatically be sent a Personal Identification Number (PIN) when you apply for Federal financial aid. Your PIN can be used to correct your FAFSA information over the Internet, file a Renewal FAFSA for subsequent years, and gain access to other useful Department of Education web sites.
  • You should receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) in the mail about two weeks after sending your electronic FAFSA.
  • The schools you list on your FAFSA (hopefully, CSUB will be one of them) will receive electronic copies of your SAR which is then used to help figure out how much financial aid you are eligible to receive.
  • Once your award is determined, you will receive a financial aid award letter in the mail. Review it carefully, and follow the instructions included with the award letter. And remember to keep copies of everything.
  • If you plan to receive financial aid and you register for classes, be sure to complete and submit a Student Financial Aid Consortium Agreement Form with your registration. Your fees will be deducted from your award once your award is verified by the Regional Programs Office.
  • Keep in touch with your Financial Aid officer. These folks are REALLY busy, so make a list of questions before you call. Maintain your own file of all financial records, including receipts of enrollment. You will most likely need this information in the future.
