CSUB High School Honor Orchestra

Any high school string student:

• in good standing with their high school music program
• recommended by their orchestra director

Auditions (more on that in a bit) are only for chair placement - if your director recommends you, you’re in!

Since the Honor Orchestra is also intended to serve a diverse range of students, the music selected will be on the difficulty of a “grade 3” (on a scale of grade 1 to 5). Violin and viola players should expect some shifting up to 3rd position, cellos to 4th, and basses to 5th. Key signatures may include 3 sharps and 2 flats, major and minor.

Auditions are for chair placement only.

After registering, please submit a link to an unlisted YouTube video recording of yourself playing 2 major scales of your choice, any number of octaves. Then, a short excerpt (no more than 3 minutes) of any music that best displays your ability – it could be a solo, it could be music you’re playing in orchestra, anything of your choice. Send the link to Dr. Sakomoto (LSakomoto@csub.edu) by September 25th.

The Honor Orchestra will cost a minimum of $30 to cover the cost of a commemorative t-shirt (which will also serve as the concert attire).

A $12 boxed Subway’s lunch is an option for Saturday.

 

The Honor Orchestra takes place over three days:

Thursday, September 26
5:30pm - 7:30pm 1st Rehearsal, CSUB Music Building Room 128

Friday, September 27
5:30pm - 7:30pm 2nd Rehearsal, CSUB Music Building Room 128

Saturday, September 28
10:30am - 12:15pm 3rd Rehearsal, Doré Theatre
12:15pm - 1pm Lunch
1pm - 3:00pm  Final rehearsal
4:00pm Concert with BC/CSUB Orchestra
