March 18, 2024: Religious Literacy and Public Health Panel
Students in our Introduction to Public Health class heard from a panel of local religious leaders. The discussion, “Religious Literacy and Public Health,” covered topics like the special health needs of individual communities and common misconceptions of religious groups. The aim of the panel is for students to learn about the ways culture and religion impact health and health disparities.
Public health assistant professor Dr. Linh Bui worked with religious studies assistant professor Dr. Joseph Florez to bring the panelists to the class.

April 3, 2022: STEMposium
Inside a tent stretched over the lawn were more tables, including one with information on CSUB's new public health program. Professors Dr. Andrea Lopez and Dr. Linh Bui were there with their student volunteer Jessica Jaime.
âIt's very exciting to be back out in the community,â Dr. Lopez said. âBeing able to see people of all ages is really fun.â
The public health team was kept busy with curious students all day, many of them interested in a career in health care. Jaime, a junior, graduated from BC with her associate degree in public health and has since transferred to CSUB to earn her bachelor's degree.
âI did a lot of volunteering for public health at BC, and I felt like it was important to do that here too,â she said. âIt gives you experience talking to the community.â
