CSUB PUBLIC HEALTH PIPELINE INTERNSHIP
About the internship:
This is a paid internship for CSUB students with a passion for serving and reducing health disparities negatively affecting Kern County residents. Students will be directly involved in implementing public health interventions, research and learning about public health. Kern County Public Health offers 1 paid internship placement opportunity for the Tobacco Prevention Program. Students can complete a maximum of 166 hours, compensated at $16 per hour.

Internship Requirements:
• Must be a current full time enrolled student pursuing a public health degree
• Able to complete hours by December 6, 2024
• Adhere to CSUB and KCPH internship standards and expectations
• Send one (1) letter of recommendation and a copy of an unofficial transcript to

• Upon hire, must proof eligibility to work in the U.S.
Common Internship Tasks:
• Assist in community meetings
• Research local and statewide policies
• Collaborate in creating of infographics, factsheets, brochures • Create or adapt
social media posts
• Assist in tracking measures identified by the program
• Participate in community education events
• Participate in data collection evaluation

NSME K-12 and Community College Peer Mentor
Overview: The CSUB HSI-STEM Project Proposal is looking for student mentors to increase retention and success in K-12 & Community Colleges. The K-12 & Community College Peer Mentors program focuses on the retention of underrepresented, low socioeconomic students in STEM. NSME Outreach's intentions are to increase recruitment and transfer rates and produce highly skilled STEM candidates to meet California's workforce needs. Under the supervision of the NSME Outreach and Community College Coordinator, NSME K-12 and Community College Peer Mentors' roles will require attending community events, such as trade fairs, career expos, as well as partake in high school STEM related events to strengthen commitments to CSUB enrollment.
TIMING OF PLACEMENTS: 10-20 hours a week TBD

Pay Rate: $15.50 an hour

Required Qualifications:

Be able to communicate and interact positively and effectively with staff, faculty, and students

Possess sound judgment and strong organizational skills

High achievement in gateway STEM courses

Desire to help students succeed
-
Awareness and sensitivity to individual learning styles and needs

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
-
Be a current CSUB student enrolled full time with a minimum of 12 units per semester

Maintain the minimum term GPA of 3.0 or higher
-
Must be able to pass a background check

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience mentoring other students.

Experience working with underserved populations.

Experience working in higher education or in any education setting.

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

What do we know about physical activity and vascular function among young adults in Kern County?
You are invited to participate in a study to learn about physical activity and vascular function among young adults in Kern County!
Eligible participants are:
- Age: 18-25 years old
- Kern County residents
The study includes:
- Part 1: Complete an online questionnaire on your physical activity
- Part 2 (Optional): Vascular function measurement at a CSUB lab (in person)
- You can choose to participate in Part 1 only or both parts of the study
Up to $30 (Part 1: $10, Part 2: $20) In appreciation of your time, you will receive cash rewards.
