Prior to your departure, it is vitally important to stay informed about developments in the country/countries where you will spend time (including any countries you'll visit that are not part of your study abroad program's itinerary). The U.S. State Department's Bureau of Consular Affairs assists American citizens traveling or living abroad. The Bureau also issues Consular Information Sheets, Travel Warnings, and Public Announcements that provide important information regarding foreign travel.
U.S. citizens should register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which allows you to enter information about your upcoming trip abroad so that the Department of State can better assist you in an emergency.
Register at the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program website.
CSUB also regularly monitors travel alerts and is in touch with the CSU Chancellor's office as well as our internal Risk and Safety department. Should anything develop in your host country that deems your country unsafe for travel, we will contact you regarding the status of your trip. If an issue arises while you are in your host country and the U.S. State Department, the CSU Chancellor's Office, or the CSUB campus orders an evacuation of CSUB students from your country, we'll work with you, the State Department, the U.S. Embassy, and local authorities to return you to the U.S. or temporarily to a nearby country as soon as possible. For this reason (and others), it is extremely important to monitor your CSUB email and phone messages while abroad.
