Through a variety of programs and in collaboration with other human services agencies and organizations, CAPK helps low-income residents pursue their educational goals, secure and retain employment, maintain adequate housing, access medical services, obtain utility bill payment subsidies and residential weatherization assistance, counteract hunger and food insecurity, obtain child care and preschool education, and engage in personal and family development opportunities to build and achieve individual and family self-sufficiency.

The Learning Center and Outreach Center, located in the heart of southeast Bakersfield, are operated by the Department of Special Needs and Community Outreach. They respond to requests for assistance with basic needs from people living in poverty and/or crisis. As part of a values-driven organization, the Centers are committed to preserving the dignity of each person by treating all clients with respect, justice, and compassion. The Centers seek to provide quality service to clients through positive collaborations with partners from other service agencies, businesses, and community volunteers.

Every 4th Wednesday of the month, Applecore Project Inc. partenrs with CapK Food Bank and Bakersfield Reovery Services to give out food boxes at 616 Grace Street Bakersfield, CA 93305

Pantry Day is every 4th Saturday of the month at the same location as the food distribution.

CalFresh is for people with low-income who meet federal income eligibility rules and want to add to their budget to put healthy and nutritious food on the table.

The CalFresh Program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), issues monthly electronic benefits that can be used to buy most foods at many markets and food stores. The CalFresh Program helps to improve the health and well-being of qualified households and individuals by providing them a means to meet their nutritional needs.

"Our mission is to help alleviate hunger and provide food for those in need in the Kern County community. We accomplish this by collecting and distributing food and agricultural products that might otherwise go to waste. Through the help of our referring agencies, we are able to distribute food to needy children, senior citizens, families in crisis, people who are ill, disabled, homeless or unemployed, and others determined by the board of directors to be eligible."

The SNAP Retailer Locator is an online tool provided by the USDA that helps users find stores and farmers' markets that accept SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. By entering a zip code or address, users can quickly locate nearby authorized retailers where they can use their EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) cards to purchase eligible food items.
