Meal Plan
A meal plan for students who live on campus is $4,066 for the fall and spring terms. Please see the CSUB Dining website for more details.
Other Costs
Students should plan for about $5,000 in other expenses throughout the academic year. These expenses include books, travel off campus, entertainment, etc. throughout the year. These costs will vary significantly for each student.
There are also apartment complexes within walking distance to the University:
Apartment Living
Many students enjoy living in a private apartment off-campus. The university is surrounded by many apartments that are within walking distance of the campus and shopping. Additionally, Bakersfield has a public transportation system, and many of the roads have bicycle lanes for easy bicycling in the city.
International Students and Programs Office does not make apartment arrangements for students. A local one-bedroom unfurnished apartment ranges in cost depending on the location, size, and quality. First-time renters may be required to pay deposits for start-up of utility services.
Note: All housing prices are subject to change. CSUB Housing is subject to availability.
Homestay Program
Homestay programs are available for students who wish to live with an American family and fully immerse themselves in the American culture. The family setting offers a great opportunity for students to experience American traditions and customs.
Students may share a bedroom and / or bathroom with another student or family member. Two to three meals are usually provided each day. Transportation between home and CSUB may be provided depending on the arrangement with the Homestay provider.
Students wishing to participate in the Homestay Program should complete the Student Homestay Application at this site: www.homestaynetwork.com
Please note that Homestay Network is not a part of CSUB. We will not be able to provide assistance with any homestay concerns.
