Insurance and Family PACT
Insurance
Student Health Services is unable to accept outside insurance other than Family Pact. Students are encouraged to enroll in an individual medical insurance plan to cover off-campus medical care, emergencies and/or hospitalization. All off-campus medical care is obtained at the student's expense. The SHS Patient Liaison offers Covered California application assistance during open enrollment.
Please note: International students shouldn't purchase international health insurance on their own. International students will have their international health insurance directly billed to their account.
In-House Insurance
The SHS Health Equity Accessibility Leadership Taskforce sponsors the SHS Health Equity insurance to cover the cost of visits at Student Health Services for those who qualify.
For more information about Covered California application assistance or the Health Equity insurance, call (661) 654-2395 or email aellis@csub.edu.
Family Pact
CSUB students interested in receiving free reproductive care are encouraged to apply for the Family PACT program!
The Family PACT (Planning, Access, Care, Treatment) Program is a state-funded program that provides clinical services, education, counseling and treatment for family planning and reproductive health at no cost to low-income California residents. You are eligible if you live in California, are at risk of pregnancy or causing a pregnancy, have a gross family income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty level, and have no other source of health care coverage for family planning services. You are also eligible if you want access to family planning services but need to keep those services confidential from your partner, spouse or parent.
If qualified, Family PACT provides you with:
- Birth control information
- Pap smears
- Pregnancy testing
- Sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment
- Contraceptives: condoms, spermicide, birth control pills, the Evra Patch, Nuvaring, and emergency contraception
